NEW BEER ALERT!
**ONLY 10 days to go until the launch of the latest Badlands beer**
The keg cap is imminently to be popped off the latest addition to the Badlands range.
Forget media launches and giveaways to industry insiders there is only one place and on one day where you can try the new beer more than 3 months before its general release.
Badlands Brewery Oktoberfest - From 4 until 6:30pm Sunday October 23rd 2011 at The Badlands Brewery Bar, within Totally Local, 426 Mitchell Highway, Orange.
Chef Paul Dauvin has been researching German Beer Food so extensively he has been rumoured to have been seen recently busking outside a local supermarket wearing lederhosen sporting a fake handlebar moustache and playing a tuba.
A buffet style dinner accompanied with a glass of the latest Badlands Beer.
The buffet will include: Pork Knuckle; Veal Schnitzel; Liver Wurst; Bratwurst; Bologna; Braunchweigner; Potato Salad; Potato Pancakes; Fried Mash Rolls; Sauerkraut; Potato soup; German Cheese Cake; Black Forest Cake. (how there will be any room for beer after that lot I am not sure)
Included in the event price is a glass of the new Badlands Beer. The name of the beer is so secret not even the Badlands team know what it is (please email jon with any name suggestions URGENTLY!). The style is a Marzen otherwise known as an Oktoberfest, and is a malty, robust, Munich Lager.
The beer will be available until the single keg runs dry and then will feature as a generally available addition to the Badlands stable early in 2012. The other Badlands Beers will also be available on the day, as always.
Tickets $60, Bookings essential and must be made by 6pm Friday 15th October (YES, THAT IS THIS FRIDAY). Please call (02) 63 604 604 business hours as soon as you can to book your spot.

CoolRoom Restaurant open for business
Tonight the CoolRoom Restaurant (incorporating Badlands Brewery Bar) opened its doors for the first time.
Head Chef Paul Dauvin, seated, has created with style a delectable menu based on local produce, healthy portions and great beer matching combinations.
If tonight was anything to go by (we were fully booked and everyone left with full bellies and big smiles) Paul and the rest of the gang are going to be pretty busy.
Now you can enjoy the entire Badlands range of beers with brilliant food into the evening. The restaurant and bar are open on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 6pm. Bookings required please call (02) 63 604 604.
To whet the appetite here are some items from the menu.

Saturday April 9th - Official Opening of Badlands Brewery Bar and Cool Room Cafe @ Totally Local
The twentieth anniverary of Australia's oldest FOOD festival is a great opportunity to launch The Cool Room Cafe @ Totally Local that incorporates The Badlands Brewery Bar with a beer and food matching dinner.
For all the information on what's on and when please see the F.O.O.D week website
Four courses with four different beers - five if you count the Pale Ale poured from a traditional English Hand pump. (The beer tastes completely different compared to on tap!)
There are only a dozen seats left for what should be a sumptuous, fun-filled and educational evening.
I will be doing a talk about beers place at the table and, in recognition of beer being more approachable and taking itself a little less seriously than wine - this will be an informal and fun evening.
For more information and to secure your spot please call Totally Local on 02 6360 4604
Where: Cool Room Cafe @ Totally Local, 426 Mitchell Highway, Orange
When: Saturday 9th April, 6:30pm till 10pm
Cost: $80 p/head
Cheers to twenty years of F.O.O.D. weeks and Here's to the next twenty!

Millamolong Polo Carnival 30th April 2011
Badlands Brewery has been awarded the sole beer rights as this year’s Millamolong Polo Carnival.
I am really pleased to be given the opportunity to showcase Badlands Beers as this gala, fun-filled day. It promises to be a wonderful day and already one of the best days in the Central Western NSW calendar looks to be better again this year.
Apart from the polo there is a load to do, especially for the little ones including a helicopter lolly-drop where you can win a helicopter ride. The day also features a machine versus beast race. The fastest polo horse versus a car! There will be some of Australia’s best polo players attending from all over the country.
Please have a look at their website for more details and try and make it along. 100% of proceeds from the day go to charity.

** First Pub in Orange to pour Badlands Beer on Tap **
You can only lose you virginity once. The Occidental Hotel , Lords Place, Orange is the first pubin Orange to be pouring Badlands Beers on tap.
Look for the Badlands mascot, Bruce the Badlands Cow Skull is hanging over the bar above the Badlands Pale Ale tap. (Yes I realise that Bruce is a male name and cows are generally female, but it was Bruce Springsteen who sang Badlands not Beyonce or Cyndi Lauper)
The Oxo is a fantastic spot now, fine dining in the front and a saloon style public bar at the back. A darts room and a games room with Wii, table tennis and a jukebox round out the picture.
Combine Tapas, Wii and Badlands Pale Ale and what do you get?'
I have absolutely no idea, but it's Bad and good all at the same time.

Progress of the Badlands Bar
Finally progress on the Badlands Bar, housed within the soon-to-be-open Cool Room Cafe @ Totally Local, Orange.
We are waiting on the final certificate from Council before we can open but it's time to start getting organised.
The stainless steel tap shelf and drip-tray got installed today. Then we ran the beer lines through the foot-thick walls directly into the cold room behind that is home to the kegs of beer. Gas lines and couplers attached in no time and bingo - the beer is flowing.
A traditional English hand-pump is also being installed shortly. I believe the Badlands Bar will be one of only two or three venues where you can drink hand-pumped beer anywhere in NSW.
The cafe is housed within an old apple store. The store was used for decades to sort and store apples from all around Orange. The walls are built with straw lined bricks, old fashioned air-conditioning as they keep the room beautifully cool even in the height of summer.
Of course Oranges' winters are known for being a little brisk so a big pot-bellied stove in the corner will be fired up before too long.
We are hopeful the cafe and bar will be open within a month.
Watch this space.....

Beer lines going through the old straw bricks straight into the cool room
The first pour! Slightly frothy, glad there are no paying punters waiting
Here's the first Dark, had to have a slug to make sure it was OK. Sensory Evaluation!

**Pale Ale on Tap alert** Basalt at the Commerical Hotel, Millthorpe
Milestones galore in the Badlands lately.
I was ecstatic to tap the first 50lt keg available in the Central West today at The Old Commercial Hotel, Millthorpe. Otherwise known as Basalt Restaurant.
Considering the challenges on getting tap space in any pubs these days (the major breweries make it almost impossibly hard for small breweries to get a look in) I was especially pleased as The Commercial only has two taps.
If you are in the area, please visit this fantastic spot. Joel the owner who also runs the Urban Graze cooking school just down the road has done a sterling job in renovating this landmark corner pub in my favourite village in this neck of the woods.
The food is superb and they grow much of their fruit and veggies in their back garden that you can stroll through. They even have a bee hive.
Tom the young head chef is shown here pouring the first beer.
Nice work Tom
